Game #60 Preview: Nats at Blue Jays

Game 2 of 3: Tuesday, June 12, 7:07 PM

Last night the Nats received a stellar outing from Edwin Jackson and the offense got to tee off on the Toronto bullpen to the tune of six runs on 14 hits after Brandon Morrow left the game in the first having only thrown nine pitches. Tonight the Nationals send Chien-Ming Wang (1-2, 5.11 ERA) to the mound to square off against Henderson Alvarez (3-5, 3.76 ERA).

I’ve been very vocal about the fact that Chien-Ming Wang has not been good in his two starts this season, although I will admit I am a big Detwiler fan. Over 9.1 IP in those two starts he’s got a 5.79 ERA, given up 15 hits, 6 walks and has allowed opposing hitters to put together a 1.042 OPS against. He actually got lucky in his last outing as he managed to only give up two runs on eight hits and three walks while loading the bases multiple times.

Alvarez has not been great over his last five outings, compiling a 5.58 ERA and allowing batters to rack up a .908 OPS against. As a whole Alvarez doesn't strike out or walk guys very often with a 2.1 BB/9 and a 2.6 K/9 on the season. He has yet to face a current National.
