Game #56 Preview: Nats at Red Sox

Game 1 of 3: Friday, June 8, 7:10 EDT, Fenway Park

After getting manhandled by R.A. Dickey yesterday in a 3-1 loss, the Nationals send Stephen Strasburg (6-1, 2.35 ERA) to the mound to face Felix Doubront (6-2, 3.75 ERA).

Bouncing back from a few less than stellar outings, Strasburg was exceptional his last time out giving up zero runs on four hits and striking out nine over seven innings. It should be interesting to see just how far Davey is willing to let him go this evening, as with the DH he won’t be pulled for the sake of offense. Not much can be said about Strasburg versus current Red Sox as they’ve had a total of 7PA against him, divided between 2 batters.

Doubront has been the most consistent Red Sox starter…and that’s not really saying much. In his last five outings he’s 4-1, during that period he has not given up more than two earned runs in a starts. Also during those five starts he has an ERA of 2.40, a K:BB of 3.4:1, an OPS against of .645 and averaging 6.0 IP per start. No current National has faced Doubront, so we’ll see how they fare starting at 7:10 this evening.

Lineup Notes: As we postulated last night on the podcast, Morse gets the start at DH tonight. In his place Xavier Nady is in RF and Tyler Moore, who’s actually being allowed to step foot on the field while a game is being played, is in LF. For those of you asking, Lombo is out of the lineup due to the fact that his splits as a RHB (vs. LHP) are abysmal, albeit over a small sample (.105/.227/.158 vs. .324/.384/.412 as a LHB).
