Game #55 Preview: Nats vs. Mets

Game 3 of 3: Thursday, June 7, 1:05 EDT, Nationals Park

After a solid outing by Edwin Jackson and enough offense to keep the Mets at bay to secure a win, the Nats send Chien-Ming Wang (1-1, 6.43 ERA)  to face R.A. Dickey (8-1, 2.69 ERA) on getaway day. Once again, let the puns ensue.

Wang began his first start of the season in strong fashion but that quality quickly degraded as he lasted just 4 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks and ultimately being replaced by Ross Detwiler. Current Mets have hit well against Wang, compiling a .343 Batting Average against (and only a .333 OBP, anyone want to guess how?), and a .733 OPS. Duda and Bay have been the best against Wang, through 5 and 4 PA’s, respectively.

Dickey is off to the best start of his career, at age 37. He’s currently sitting on a 2.69 ERA and a K:BB of 4.12:1 (over 1.5x better than his previous career best). Over his last three starts, vs. PIT, SD & STL, (23.1 IP) he’s got an ERA of 0.39 (0 Runs given up in his last 17.1 IP) with a K:BB of 30:1. Needless to say he’s been fairly hot over the last 3 weeks. Dickey pitches quite well against the Nats, allowing a .285 On-Base Against and a .618 OPS Against. The three best against Dickey by OPS are: Ankiel (1.043 OPS in 23PA), Nady (1.333 OPS in 3 PA) and Flores (2.500 OPS in 2PA)…None of which are in the lineup today.

Lineup Notes: Same lineup as the past few days with the exception that Solano is catching instead of Flores. Maldanado was placed on the 15-day DL with a back strain and Henry Rodriguez was sent to the DL as well. Tyler Moore got the call from Syracuse and Brad Lidge was activated from the 15-day DL to fill those spots.
